Bring Back the Vogelkop
Bowerbird’s True Colors
Why We Need
the Bowerbird Project
When I first entered the forests of Papua to see the Vogelkop Bowerbird,
I expected to witness their colorful bowers made from natural treasures.
Instead, I found mostly human garbage—plastic caps, candy wrappers,
and other litter. It was heartbreaking to see these extraordinary birds forced to use our trash in their courtship.
The Vogelkop Bowerbird deserves to live—and court—naturally,
as it has for thousands of years. Future generations deserve to see it too.
That is why we started the Bowerbird Project: to restore their forest habitat,
remove human waste, and work with local communities so that these birds can once again build their bowers entirely from natural materials.
We aim to bring back the true beauty of the Vogelkop Bowerbird—
so anyone can observe it in its fully natural state.
